ST. PETERSBURG Luca Pellegrini Jersey , Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Baltic Shipyard, one of the oldest shipyards in Russia, launched here on Friday the second LK-60Ya-class nuclear-powered icebreaker Sibir.


The ship was laid in May 2017, and its construction must be finished in 2020.


This is the first in a series of three icebreakers that the Baltic Shipyard will build for the Northeast Passage.


Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Sibir will significantly strengthen the potential of the Russian nuclear-powered fleet.


The Baltic Shipyard press service said Sibir will be the world's largest and most powerful nuclear icebreaker.
