RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Supporters of Brazil's suspended president Dilma Rousseff on Tuesday blocked roads to the city of Sao Paulo in protest of her impeachment process.
Demonstrators set up roadblocks by setting fire to tires along six of the city's major access routes, and carried banners that read "Temer Out," in reference to the interim president who has taken place during the proceedings.
Should Rousseff be impeached in a Senate vote on Wednesday, Michel Temer would be instated to complete her term through the end of 2018.
The protesters were members of Brazil's Landless Worker's Movement (MST), which backs Rousseff and the left-leaning coalition led by the Workers' Party (PT) that brought her to power.
Authorities arrested four people, including the driver of a truck loaded with tires that were to be used to put up another roadblock.
In a statement posted on social networks, Guilherme Boulos, the leader of the MST, said "today's actions are an expression of the resistance against the coup d'etat underway in Brazil."
Rousseff and her supporters say she has not committed any crimes, and charges of alleged fiscal wrongdoing have been fabricated by the conservative opposition, which lost 2014 presidential elections, to seize power.
During the fourth day of the trial Monday, police used tear gas to disperse another protest by Rousseff sympathizers.
