sides of the football Bills Jason Croom Jersey , and the Buffalo Bills...well, don’t. However, the Bills were able to stop those superstars for the majority of Sunday’s 20-13 loss to Houston. Buffalo’s unheralded defense was especially brilliant, holding Houston’s offense to its lowest total yardage number (216) of the season. While Buffalo’s defensive stars shined brightly, its offensive players continued to perform poorly. However, there were multiple players on the offense who contributed to what could have been a solid, if ugly and unspectacular, victory. Here is how the Texans we watched fared this past weekend.QB Deshaun WatsonThe Bills were able to rattle and confuse Houston’s young quarterback all afternoon, holding him to one of his worst games as a professional. The Bills mixed their coverages beautifully, and their pressure fronts allowed them to sack Watson seven times. Six Buffalo players had at least half a sack in the game. The Bills also forced Watson to throw two interceptions and fumble three times. Buffalo was only able to recover one of the fumbles. Watson completed 60% of his passes (15-for-25) for 177 yards, one touchdown, and those two interceptions. His chest injury may have contributed to a lack of mobility from the speedy quarterback, as he looked hesitant to do anything other than buy time to throw all day. He only ran twice on the afternoon, gaining two yards total.WR DeAndre HopkinsHouston’s best wideout (and arguably the NFL’s best receiver) had his worst overall day of the season. Hopkins was only targeted six times Cheap Kyle Williams Jersey , and he caught five passes for 53 yards. All of those numbers are season-low totals, as Buffalo’s Tre’Davious White matched up with Hopkins for most of the day. Hopkins did draw three holding flags on White, and he also managed to catch a touchdown on a beautiful back-shoulder throw in the first quarter. “Nuk” is a hard guy to stop, and White did a fairly good job of at least containing the big-time receiver. DE J.J. WattThe league’s leading sack master added to his total on Sunday, taking down Josh Allen in notching his seventh sack of the year. The sack was Watt’s only tackle for loss on the day, and he notched just three stops overall. All things considered, Buffalo fared well in slowing down one of the most fearsome defensive players in the league.DE Jadeveon ClowneyThe Bills had similar success in slowing Clowney, who only managed one tackle in the game—though it was a stop for a loss. Buffalo did a nice job overall protecting the quarterback, as Josh Allen was only sacked twice. Houston leads the league in quarterback hits by a wide margin, notching 65 on the season. The Cleveland Browns are second with 46. On Sunday, the Bills only allowed four hits to their quarterbacks, although one of them was enough to knock Allen from the game.T Julie’n Davenport/T Martinas RankinThe Texans’ young tackles really struggled with Buffalo’s blitzes. Head coach Sean McDermott and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier dialed up pressure from all angles, bringing safeties, corners Bills Corey Bojorquez Jersey , linebackers, and everything except the kitchen sink at Deshaun Watson. The result was seven sacks and 15 hits on the quarterback, bringing Buffalo’s totals in each category to 24 (third in the league) and 37 (sixth in the league), respectively. Buffalo had 14.5 tackles for loss, as well. Basically, the Bills lived in the Houston backfield all day, so it’s hard to blame only the Texans’ tackles, but the two young players were a big part of the reason Houston’s offense struggled so mightily.Buffalo Bills roster bubble: notes from the preseason finale against the Chicago Bears Several Buffalo Bills were playing for their roster lives in Thursday’s preseason finale. Let’s take a look at how some of the roster bubble performed against the Chicago Bears.QB AJ McCarronThe quarterback was bad for most of the game but led a stellar fourth quarter comeback that may have been enough to save his job. He finished 13 of 34 for 156, three passing touchdowns, six rushes for 54 yards and another score, and led the team to 25 unanswered points to win the game. RB Taiwan Jones and Travaris CadetJones got no time in the game at all, but it’s unlikely it’s because his roster spot is safe. Cadet played nearly 30% of the offensive snaps and averaged more than 12 yards on his six carries.TE Logan Thomas and Nick O’LearyWhile both players were in the starting lineup, it was Thomas who played the entire game while O’Leary eventually sat on the bench. Thomas played well down the stretch of the game, nabbing a total of three catches for 40 yards including a 23-yard bullet.WR Ray-Ray McCloud III Bills Matt Milano Jersey , Austin Proehl, Brandon Reilly, Rod Streater, Malachi DuprePerhaps the most muddled position on the roster, the Bills receivers were all over the place in the feverish comeback. Perhaps the biggest news was the late knee injury to McCloud, which could end his season before it began. We don’t know the severity of the injury yet. Reilly, Proehl, and Dupre were all in the game late while Streater subbed out earlier. It’s very much in the air and it wouldn’t surprise me if none of these players made the final roster.OT Marshall Newhouse and Conor McDermottNewhouse played a lot of snaps for being a veteran most thought would be the swing tackle. McDermott played more but was in after Newhouse. Nehouse gets the edge now, but Buffalo will be scouring the waiver wire for an upgrade.OG Wyatt TellerDefinitely secured his spot on the roster with his play on Thursday night. He’s a developmental prospect, but he flashed good things.DT Adolphus Washington, Tyrunn Walker, and Ricky HatleyWashington definitely showed flashes of what has kept him around. He is probably safe. The newly-signed Walker earned more snaps than Hatley, which is not a good sign for Hatley who was in the game until the end. DE Terrence FedeFede got the start for the Bills at defensive end as the top four defensive ends didn’t play. It will come down to numbers. If they keep five defensive ends, it looks like that’s Fede’s job. If they keep four Rafael Bush Jersey , he’s out. LB Deon Lacey, Xavier Woodson-Luster, and Tanner VallejoAll three started and Lacey had a few brutal missed tackles. He finished with five tackles while Vallejo added four, with Woodson-Luster tallying three. Vallejo played 100% of the defensive snaps and 72% of the special teams snaps. Lacey and Woodson-Luster played a ton of snaps, too. Who knows where the coaches are leaning here.CB Breon Borders, Levi Wallace, Lafayette Pitts, and Ryan CarterBorders may have played his way onto the roster with a nice interception against the Bears. Wallace plays more special teams, so that could be a factor. How many safeties do they keep? That could be the determining factor at cornerback.SS Dean MarloweGetting the start at safety, Marlowe ended the game second in tackles with five. He came up with some nice run fills Thursday night and will be the team’s fourth or fifth safety. How many cornerbacks do they keep?P Colton Schmidt and Jon RyanSchmidt had three punts, Ryan had one. Ryan’s went 47 yards. Schmidt averaged 43 yards including a touchback on a very short field. I don’t think Ryan has done enough to overtake the younger Schmidt. Roster cuts are due by 4 p.m. on Saturday.
