DETROIT -- Kevin Gausman feels strong physically in the closing weeks of the season. Thats helped him make opposing batters look overmatched in recent starts. The Baltimore Orioles right-hander has won his last four starts and carries a streak of 19 consecutive scoreless innings into his outing at the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. Gausman was floundering with a 3-10 record until his recent turnaround.Ive just been a little bit frustrated, until about a month ago, with how my seasons been going, Gausman told the Baltimore Sun. I felt like I was pitching great and things just didnt go my way. Now its kind of on the other side, the other flip side of it. Like I said, Im just confident, feeling good. I think this is the first time Ive got into August and September and felt this good physically with this amount of innings under my belt.Gausman has walked five and struck out 27 during the winning streak. His scoreless stretch began with a six-inning stint against Washington. He then held down the New York Yankees in back-to-back outings, spanning 13 innings.Gausman is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA in four career starts against the Tigers. The three-game series could impact the pennant race, as both Baltimore and Detroit are in the wild-card hunt while still trying to catch the leaders of their divisions. The Orioles are two games back of American League East Division leader Boston and hold the second wild card spot, one game ahead of the Tigers. Detroit trails Cleveland in the AL Central by six games.Hes had a great look in his eye for about a month, not that he hasnt before, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said to the media recently of Gausman. Its just theres a real driven look and presence about him. Felt like hes really kind of hit his stride. Hes been solid for us for a while. The Orioles have won four of their last six games but dropped the finale of a three-game series to Tampa Bay 7-6 on Wednesday. They are hopeful that first baseman Chris Davis will return to the lineup on Friday. Davis sat out the last game with soreness in his left palm.Detroit returns home after losing two of three to the Chicago White Sox. The Tigers bullpen gave away a 4-3 lead in the eighth on Wednesday by surrendering four runs.Down the stretch, we need to win every game that we can, catcher James McCann said. So not getting the series win is frustrating, but at the end of the day, weve got to show up to the ballpark on Friday. Weve got a big series with Baltimore.Rookie Michael Fulmer, who has lost his last three starts, will oppose Gausman. Fulmer was encouraged by his most recent outing, when he gave up three runs in six innings to Kansas City in a 5-2 loss on Saturday.Im taking all positives out of this, he told the Detroit News. My fastball command was better. I made a few mechanical tweaks that helped a lot. The change-up was sharp and the slider was sharp. I got a lot of ground balls, kind of like the old me out there -- thats what I want.Fulmer got a no-decision on May 15 in his only career appearance against the Orioles, allowing four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. With no player values, formations or position requirements in Sky Sports Fantasy Six-a-Side, the pundits can pick whoever they want except for only one of the four Elite Players, who are Fabio Borini, Jermain Defoe, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.Heres who the Soccer Saturday pundits are selecting...Matt Le Tissiers teamAlexis Sanchez - Ive got to go with the form man. Its not quite been the sensational second season Arsenal fans were hoping for but hes got five goals in his last four games. Alexis Sanchez bagged a brace against West Brom midweek Danny Welbeck - He sat out the midweek win against West Brom so Im hoping that means hell be fresh to play the full 90 on Sunday and get back to scoring ways.Alex Iwobi - Arsenal may not have much left to play for but this lad has plenty of incentive to continue to impress, which hes certainly done so far with a couple of goals and assists since being handed his chance.Wahbi Khazri - He seems to start every game for Sunderland and racked up plenty of goals at Bordeaux. Hopefully he can do the same for my side. Fantasy Six-A-Side points scoring breakdown Theo Walcott - After pulling clear of United with their midweek win, I think Arsene Wenger might give Walcott a chance to prove himself with a rare start.ddddddddddddYann MVila - He doesnt score many, netting just once this season, but what you will get from him is plenty of passes and hell win the majority of duels with Arsenals midfield.Charlies teamMesut Ozil - Well, Ill let Le Tiss have the in-form Sanchez and go with the player who has been Arsenals best player over the course of the season season. Mesut Ozil has scored six and assisted 18 goals this season Mohamed Elneny - He ranks first at the club for passing accuracy and second for average number of passes per game, so is guaranteed to pick up a healthy total.Jan Kirchhoff - Hes my insurance pick for in case it all goes wrong on Sunday and Arsenal fail to find the net.Hector Bellerin - His pace allows his to get forward so Id back him to create a few chances and complete plenty of passes, while Ill obviously be hoping Arsenal can record back-to-back clean sheets. Patrick van Aanholt - Another insurance pick but one that gets forward a lot, with three goals making him their joint fourth top goalscorer.Laurent Koscielny - He should be one of the best defenders in the Premier League and is another goalscoring defender, with four to his name this season.
