You couldnt have a basketball team made up of all forwards -- or could you? Lets put it this way: If you had to pick one position from the WNBA to fill an entire team, youd certainly pick forward. Because there are an abundance of terrific forwards in the league.Of course, that also reflects the fact that forward has evolved so much as a position in basketball. Some of the WNBAs best forwards are really just very tall guards. Others are centers on the small side. Some of them are pretty much equally both.So when picking our 2016 espnW All-WNBA teams, the plethora of great forwards overshadowed everything else. It even caused us to bump one of them who was highly considered for the first team down to the second team. But since shes just a rookie, we have a feeling shell have plenty of first-team appearances in her future. You might feel some guards and centers were short-changed. There are a few big names that didnt make this list of 10. But there always will be debates on any such choices. The voters for the WNBAs honors might take right up until the last minute of the last game Sunday to make up their minds -- which is understandable. But in this last week of the regular season, here are espnWs choices.First teamF Nneka Ogwumike, Los AngelesIn her fifth season, Ogwumike has blossomed as a superstar. Her offensive efficiency is remarkable -- historic, in fact -- and she has become an even stronger defensive player, as well as the emotional leader, for the No. 2 seed Sparks. 2016 stats: 19.6 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 67.6 field goal percentF Tina Charles, New YorkCharles has carried the third-seeded Liberty. Her scoring average is a career high, topping her 18.0 of 2012 and 13. Coach Bill Laimbeer already thought she was an excellent defender but says she has actually improved that aspect of her game as well. 2016 stats: 21.5 PPG, 9.9 RPG, 3.8 APGF Maya Moore, MinnesotaOnce again, Moore has led the Lynx to the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Always a great scorer, she has become a excellent playmaker, too, which she also showed with the U.S. Olympic team. Moore is a perennial MVP candidate who amazingly at 27 is still on the ascent. 2016 stats: 19.1 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 4.1 APGG/F Elena Delle Donne, ChicagoThe 2015 MVP, shes shooting her best percentage from the floor (48.5), including a 3-point accuracy of 42.6 percent. She remains one of the best free throw shooters in all of basketball (93.8 career). The worry now, though, is her injured thumb. 2016 stats: 21.5 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 1.5 BPGG Sue Bird, SeattleYep, in her 14th WNBA season, Bird still has it. Shes leading the league in assists and is having her best showing from behind the arc at 44.4 percent (68 of 153). She has guided a young team back to the playoffs and has a fourth Olympic gold medal. 2016 stats: 13.0 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 5.9 APGSecond teamF Breanna Stewart, SeattleIts not a matter of if Stewart will win an MVP award but when. She likely will get some votes even this season and is a lock for Rookie of the Year. She was difficult to keep off the first team, but shell be there soon enough. 2016 stats: 18.4 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 3.4 APGF Candace Parker, Los AngelesA triple-threat as a scorer, rebounder and playmaker, Parker has worked well with Ogwumike to make the Sparks a contender again. Her 41 3-pointers are more than double what she made in any previous WNBA season. 2016 stats: 16.0 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 5.0 APGC Sylvia Fowles, MinnesotaAfter sitting out until late July last season to force a trade, Fowles is now comfortably ensconced in Minnesota, where her physical veteran presence in the paint makes the Lynx all the more difficult to guard and score against. 2016 stats: 13.4 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 1.7 BPGG/F Angel McCoughtry, AtlantaAfter missing the playoffs last year, the Dream are back in the postseason, led as always by McCoughtry. Shes one of the leagues top scorers, who can also provide a defensive spark and has helped guide a team with some new faces in key roles. 2016 stats: 19.2 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 1.6 SPGG Kristi Toliver, Los AngelesYes, Tolivers big weapon, the 3-pointer, sometimes misfires. But when shes hitting from long range -- shes at 43.8 percent (78 of 178) this season -- shes critical to the Sparks offense. And credit her for working hard to improve her defense. 2016 stats: 13.7 PPG, 2.6 RPG, 3.6 APG Jason Taylor Dolphins Jersey . He said Tuesday thats a big reason why he is now the new coach of the Tennessee Titans. Whisenhunt said he hit it off quickly with Ruston Webster when interviewing for the job Friday night. But Eskimo head coach Kavis Reed promises a drastic improvement on the teams 7-11 record from 2012. "We know theres still going to be some growing pains," said Reed. "However given the talent and given the core leadership that we have, we feel very confident this is going to be a very competitive football team that should win more games than we lose." The Eskimos open the CFL season at home Saturday against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Leading the way is quarterback Mike Reilly, acquired from the B.C. Lions in the off-season. The 28-year-old from Kennewick, Wash., gets his first crack as a starting QB in the pro game after years of apprenticeship as vagabond NFL training camp fodder before signing with the Lions in 2010. He started three games last year and saw action in six, completing 52 of 75 passes for 682 yards and four touchdowns against two interceptions. "Its something Ive worked my whole career for," said Reilly, standing in front of his stall in the Eskimo dressing room, the one that used to belong to famous ex-Edmonton quarterback Ricky Ray. "Ive wanted to be a starting quarterback on a professional team since I was a little kid. Now that opportunity has come, but its still no guarantee. Youve still got to go out and perform each week." Reilly was to fight Matt Nichols for the starting pivot job this year until Nichols tore up his knee in the first pre-season game against the Riders. He is done until 2014. The No. 2 quarterback is rookie Jonathan Crompton. They are part of the roster overhaul that will see newcomers in half the starting positions and major changes to the offensive line. Guard Simeon Rottier shifts over the from the left side of the line after missing half of 2012 with a hyper-extended elbow. Gord Hinse, who takes over from Kyle Koch at centre, missed most of last season with a thumb injury. Guard Matt ODonnell came to the Esks late last season, and tackles Thaddeus Coleman and Cliff Louis are off-season acquisitions. When Reilly walks to the line of scrimmage, he will see, from left to right, Coleman (six-foot-eight), ODonnell (six-foot-11), Hinse (six-foot-four), Rottier (six-foot-six) and Louis (six-foot-eight). Its not a line, its a ccordillera.dddddddddddd. They acquitted themselves well in the last pre-season game. Against the Lions they opened holes for 134 yards in rushing, 298 yards in passing and three TDs. The line has been under the gun from the get-go at camp with Reed and new general manager Ed Hervey playing good-cop, bad-cop. While Reed has built up the line, Hervey has delivered swift kicks to its backside. "Play better," Hervey said in an interview before camp opened. "Every year were always asking these questions about the offensive line. Well how about the offensive line answer those questions." Rottier said its fair game. "Anything the coach says, the GM says, theyre asking a lot — but were asking a lot of ourselves. We never take that personally. We want to win as much as they do. "We definitely want to be leading this team, playing aggressive, and give the skill guys a chance to win." The skill guys are looking for a breakout year in 2013. Slotback Fred Stamps returns as the go-to guy in the receiving corps. Stamps, entering his seventh CFL season, led the Green and Gold with 70 catches for 1,310 yards and nine touchdowns in 2012. Lining up with him are Nate Coehoorn, Shamawd Chambers, Cary Koch and the lightning fast rookie Isaiah Sweeney. In the backfield, Hugh Charles returns after accumulating 1,409 combined passing-running yards and six TDs last year. The defence is the strength of the Eskimos, led by middle linebacker JC Sherritt. The 25-year-old from Truckee, Calif., set a CFL record for tackles with 130 and was named the CFLs most outstanding defensive player. Beside him are returning veterans T.J. Hill and Damaso Munoz. Up front, free agent rush Odell Willis will try to regain the sack magic that made him the "Mayor of Swaggerville" in Winnipeg two seasons ago. Lining up at the other defensive end position is Marcus Howard, who recorded 11 sacks in 2011 only to be derailed by a recurring hamstring injury in 2012. Ted Laurent, Don Oramasionwu and Almondo Sewell provide strength at the tackle positions. Chris Thompson returns to lead a revamped secondary that includes newcomers Aaron Grymes and Marcell Young on the corners. Grant Shaw handles the kicking duties and Burke Dales is the punter. The coaching staff has also been overhauled. Doug Sams is the new offensive co-ordinator and Greg Marshall handles the defence. ' ' '
