SYDNEY -- The organization representing Australias professional footballers says women players pay more than $2,000 per season on average to compete in its semi-professional national league.The report, issued by Professional Footballers Australia and based on a survey of two thirds of players competing in the W-League, found a quarter were paid less than $500 for the 16-week season and 10 per cent werent paid at all. Nine out of 10 players said they would quit the league to pursue more lucrative opportunities.The survey found players faced an average cost of $2,237 to play in the league and only 15 percent earned more than $5000 for the past season.The report has been handed to Football Federation Australia for analysis.
