VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Ben Hutton had a number of thoughts in his head as he snaked his way toward Arizona Coyotes goalie Louis Domingue.Hutton scored on a penalty shot at 2:34 of overtime to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-2 victory over the Coyotes on Thursday night. There was a lot going through my mind, Hutton said. I knew we needed this win.Hutton beat Domingue on a slick backhand through the five-hole for his second goal of the season after being hooked on a breakaway by Dylan Strome.Thats the move I use in practice, Hutton said. Ive never attempted it in a game, obviously. I was a little nervous going into it, but it worked out. Its a big two points.Daniel Sedin had a goal and an assist, and Brandon Sutter also scored for Vancouver, which had lost 11 of 13. Jacob Markstrom made 34 saves.Weve got to build on this and get a little bit better, Sedin said. We still gave them a few too many chances in the third and werent good enough the first half of the game either.Brad Richardson and Anthony DeAngelo had goals for Arizona, which has lost four straight. Richardson was later carted off on a stretcher with an injured right leg in the second period and taken to a hospital.Domingue finished with 39 saves. We gave too many scoring chances on both sides, Domingue said. They had a lot, we had a lot and we lost the skills competition again.Domingue made a nice glove save on Loui Eriksson six minutes into third before a sliding Max Domi partially blocked Henrik Sedins effort on the backcheck.Domi was then denied at the other end on a great backhand that Markstrom, who started for the second straight game with Ryan Miller out with the flu, got with his glove on.Daniel Sedin had another golden opportunity with under three minutes to go, but Domingue was there.Keep going, Sedin said of what the message was on the bench. Its been about the process all year long. I know its been tough. Weve lost a lot of games. The Coyotes opened the scoring 1:22 into the second when Richardsons shot off the rush glanced off the stick of Vancouver defenseman Alexander Edler and past Markstrom short-side for his fifth. The Canucks challenged the play for offside, but the call stood.DeAngelo made it 2-0 on a broken play at 10:45 after Markstrom overcommitted to Martin Hanzal at the side of the Vancouver net. The puck slid off Hanzals stick and into the slot where DeAngelos deflected shot floated into the empty goal for his second.Things were looking good for the Coyotes at that point, but Richardson crumpled to the ice with a right leg injury a few minutes later after a collision with hulking Canucks defenseman Nikita Tryamkin, who stands 6-foot-7 and 265 pounds.Medical staffs from both teams attended to Richardson for several minutes before loading him onto a stretcher and to a waiting ambulance. The Coyotes said they expect to update his condition on Friday. Its a big hole we have to fill in the middle, Domingue said. He plays crucial minutes in crucial areas of the game, but just the fact he goes down like that, it is a big bummer for our team.Vancouver got on the scoreboard at 2-1 with 4:15 left in the period when Sutter took a pass from Daniel Sedin and buried his fourth of the season and third in three games. The Canucks much-maligned power play then evened it just 2:13 later when Henrik Sedin threw a nice backhand pass across the ice to Edler, who in turn found Daniel Sedin in the slot for his sixth.Again, we came from behind and got the win, said Hutton, whose team fought back to beat Dallas in OT on Sunday. Thats not the way we draw it up. Wed like to come in and get the lead and maintain the lead, which would be nice. But coming from behind just shows the character in this lockerroom.Game notes Vancouver has given up the first goal in 16 of their 18 games this season this season. ... South Africa consider the ball-tampering allegations against Faf du Plessis to be ridiculous, and a joke, and believe their stand-in captain has done absolutely nothing wrong. That was the message from the teams senior-most batsman Hashim Amla, who addressed the media at the MCG on Friday afternoon, accompanied by the entire South African squad and support staff, who were present to show solidarity.Du Plessis was among the group but stood in the background and was not put up to answer any questions. Instead Amla, the designated player for Fridays media opportunity, began in the unusual fashion of delivering a mini-speech to open proceedings.Good afternoon everybody. As you can see we have the full team here behind us, Amla said. The reason everybody is here is to stand together and to show solidarity to what has been something we actually thought was a joke. Its not April. But the allegations against Faf were really, for us, a ridiculous thing and as a team we are standing strong. For us it is basically a joke. The boys are here, standing strong. At the time, Amla was not aware that the ICC was reviewing footage of du Plessis shining the ball after licking his fingers when there appeared to be a sweet in his mouth. Is it?, Amla asked when told about the governing bodys investigation. Whether it is or not, weve done nothing wrong and Faf has done absolutely nothing wrong.Part of South Africas defence is that players often have something in their mouths on the field, Amla included. I chew bubblegum while I am fielding. Do you want me to brush my teeth after lunch every time I come out? he said. Youve got to be logical about this, common sense surely should prevail. If Ive got something in my mouth, guys are handing out red froggies at lunch time to give the kids, keep them hydrated, energise them and we are in the field for two hours. We eat nuts, biltong, that sort of thing. There was no malicious intent.Amla said he was unaware that sugary sweets have been used to shine one side of the ball in order to get reverse swing, as Marcus Trescothick wrote in his autobiography.dddddddddddd Is that a tactic? Amla asked. Is it proven or what? Thats something thats new to us. Ive had sweets in my mouth, bubblegum in my mouth, biltong, nuts, Im not sure what the big deal is. Are you sure it (an advantage) can be gained? We dont know. I can only speak for what my captain has done.Amla went as far as to say the reaction to the footage could be an attempted to discredit South Africas dominance in the series. To me and to a lot of people, it is sounding like sour sweets for people in their heads that weve played really good cricket and the timing of it is that its a bit weird too, he said. The visuals emerged the day after the Hobart Test, which South Africa won by an innings and 80 runs to take the series 2-0. Du Plessis had not been reported by the match officials and the ICC were only alerted to the alleged tampering through media reports and then chose to review it of their own volition.Amla maintained that the entire South African camp were convinced of du Plessis innocence. I am just trying to clear what we think is an absolutely wrongful allegation made on our captain. We are standing in solidarity to our captain who has done absolutely nothing wrong. Its pretty clear what we are trying to do you here. As I said, weve done nothing wrong. If there was any doubt whatsoever, you wouldnt have the full team here. Weve just basically done nothing wrong.Less than two hours after Amla spoke, du Plessis was formally charged and pleaded not guilty. South Africa are awaiting legal counsel before a date for the hearing can be decided so it is uncertain whether it will take place before the Adelaide Test next Thursday. If found guilty, du Plessis could face a suspension of one Test. ' ' '
