Manaea turned in his longest outing of the season as he went 7 ⅓ innings while allowing just two runs on six hits with six strikeouts. –After an impressive major league debut Saturday that saw him allow just three hits and an unearned run in six innings pitched, Brentwood native Paul Blackburn has forced his way into another start with the A’s. The Heritage High alum will make his next start Thursday when the A’s open a four game series at Seattle.

–Matt Chapman was the designated hitter for Class A Stockton on Saturday and had four at bats. He was scheduled for one more game in Stockton on Sunday, and if all goes well the rookie could return to the lineup as soon as Monday.

–Marcus Semien had five at bats and played all nine innings for Triple A Nashville on Saturday. Melvin said Semien is in a position to rejoin the club before the All Star break, and it could be as early as Thursday in Seattle.

Andrew Triggs’ hip has not been responding to treatment over the past two weeks and reports are he may be headed toward surgery. “He got the cortisone shot and I’m not sure that made much of a difference,” Melvin said.

–Melvin sat down and spoke with Franklin Barreto before Sunday’s game. The rookie was benched after going 0 for 4 with two costly errors in the field, though Melvin said Barreto was going to get a day off regardless in order to get Adam Rosales in the lineup.

“It’s just part of the big leagues and going through those things that you go through as a young player,” Melvin said.
