The adidas ZX 500 OG is getting the retro treatment for the summer. The “Onyx” colorway offers a vintage-look monochrome version of the style that is known for being lightweight, versatile and comfortable — a perfect option as we head into the warmer months. The mesh underlay and suede overlay are in various shades of grey, with the iconic Three Stripes, heel and accent details in constrasting black.
Remastered sneakers typically tend to re-create the past, aiming to get as close to nostalgia, material usage and tonal likeness as possible. adidas, well, they’re pursuing this whole “remastered” thing a little different. In lieu of making a shoe as close to its original iteration as possible, the brand is refining their silhouettes with modern updates. The adidas ZX originals 700, for starters, is now a mid-cut shoe. What follows are even more transformations that render the shoe unrecognizable to the untrained eye. Three Stripes branding is no longer noted at the paneling while a more scaled down midsole is replaced with a rigged bottom.
Although it continues to be one of adidas’ more popular models, the adidas ZX plux has experienced a certain fatigue this past year, because it has been released in such a wide variety of colorways. At this point, the brand realizes they must give the model an overhaul, and that is exactly what they are doing on this latest drop. Compromised of a complete beige upper, the shoe features a unique camo print unlike anything you have ever seen. The midsole includes the same print, but in different and more vibrant shades of brown, providing a nice contrasting look that is perfect for fall.
Legendary skater Mark Gonzales has been affiliated with the three stripes for quite some time now, at least enough to warrant his own lifestyle shoe for the times he spends off the skateboard with the adidas originals ZX Gonz. The hybrid silhouette features a standard ZX outsole that can also be found primarily on the adidas ZX Flux while a seamless mesh upper features classic three stripe branding on the side panel and a trefoil on the tongue. A unique ‘X’ panel lands on the heel while a trefoil logo serves as the lace dubrae.
